Last week, I finished reading an English a novel that has been translated into Chinese. Its name is “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. ”It was written by a female writer who was a German immigrant originally. She was describing her growing up experience and her impressive years passed in the neighborhood named “Brooklyn.” It is a kind of a summary of the people who live around there, most of who are struggling in their lives, always have a difficult relationship with different people, however, they are also the kindest person, in the writer’s mind.
When reading the book, I was deeply attracted by the description of the atmosphere, which is kind of natural and full of sensitivity. Besides, I like the feeling that when people love each other, they would show to each other, and I was especially impressed by the mother who was always with a strong will, optimistic, reasonable and focused on offering a better life for her two kids.
Every family has a thorn in its side, as for the writer, it was her father. Being an amateur singer with good looking and beautiful voice, he did not get anywhere, neither a good husband nor a responsible father.(anyway, the writer loves him very much)
However, the wife, the writer’s mother, had empathy and understanding for her unfulfilled husband. She seldom scolded her husband, only showed her courage and support.
It is a very good book for young people to read.Though it is a different country and different culture, pain and struggles of lives are similar. The writer's reflection on life gave me a new prospect towards American culture-they all have their inpidual opinions about different things, even at the early age;they were not against their stepfather, whereas taking it willingly...
It is a novel full of complex emotions which offers a good chance for us to reflect on our own lives. you will see the real life is full of ups and downs , and only through these changes or happenings could we grow up. The moment I closed the book, I was reflecting on my community, my neighborhood, my friends, my relatives...I get more emotions and certain about one truth: love and hope, is the key to a better life, just keep going, and life will give you the answer that you want.
